1. To those who expressed their concern yesterday and today, no I was not involved with whatever was going on with the police on the boulevard Monday morning. I happened by because I wanted some coffee, and stayed for the melee. Nothing more, I assure you.
2. Today was eerily (is that a word?) quiet in the ‘hood. The cafe was somewhat busy, which was good — but the sidewalks were devoid of the “usual suspects”. Very interesting.
3. I was approached today with the prospect of opening a cafe in another neighborhood. I’m intrigued.
4. The weather is glorious and I’m getting spoiled.
That’s all. Carry on.

I’ve been surprised over the past few weeks to see so many police officers in the neighborhood — and it looks like they’re actually making arrests. Disrupting the normal ebb and flow. Which is kind of nice, but I can’t help but wonder if it will all go away once the mayor’s race is over. Is this for real, or just a show to make us think our interim mayor is capable of doing something productive? (Which, if you’re wondering, I don’t believe.)
And what makes this even better — the normal officers I’m used to seeing can’t stand and don’t trust at all are nowhere to be found. These are new officers, most of them, and they seem to be on top of things. It’s wonderful, but I can’t help but feel a little bittersweet about it…because I’m counting down the days until the 11th and wondering when we’ll go back to business as usual in Pigtown.
