An Update

So many things have changed in such a short period of time!  I closed the business on Sunday…was dumped Saturday…and am going to meet my potential new co-workers on Wednesday.  Yikes.  If I manage to cling to whatever shred of sanity I have left, hopefully I will be gainfully employed next Monday.

I’m excited about the new job — and it will get me out of the neighborhood every day…which is a good thing.  And I’ll finally have my evenings and weekends free again…wow.

So other than the broken heart issue…I’m doing well.  And perhaps that issue will resolve itself, too…who knows.

An Interesting Quandry.

I met someone today.  Well, not in person, but via email and IM…and his website.  He’s come up with an interesting proposition for a business…but we’d need serious financial backing — not tons of money, but more than we have, certainly.

Okay if I can pull this rabbit out of my ass…or my hat…whichever…wow.

Will keep you posted.

Yes It’s True.

I am looking for a buyer for Evelyn’s.  To make a long story short, I’m burned out…for many reasons, and I need to move on and focus on other parts of my life.  If you’re interested in buying the business, let me know — everything in the cafe (with the exception of my personal junk) comes with the business, so you’re ready to go…and if you’re really nice, I’ll show you how to make the chicken salad.  All reasonable offers considered…and the price is probably a lot lower than you think.

Stop by if you’re interested.

I’m planning on living here still, so I’ll be around the neighborhood.   :)

The business will probably remain open until the end of the month — I’d love to have the new person open in October so the neighborhood doesn’t have to deal with yet another closed business.

And In Other News…

Some tidbits and links:

1.  JJT finally has dining room chairs.  Yes, this is newsworthy.  Apparently he only has two, and I will keep you updated as to the status of the other two as information becomes available.

2.  I am not closing the cafe.  In fact, I hope to stay here until they drag my fat ass out in a pine box.  Thanks to the generosity and support of friends and neighbors, I was able to take care of some outstanding issues, and I owe them a party.  That will happen before the summer is out, I promise.

3.  Smith & Wesson thinks it’s a good idea for women to own pink guns.  I think it’s bullshit, frankly, and wouldn’t be caught dead (no pun intended) with one.  I’m more partial to this little beauty.

4.  Someone thought it would be a good idea to grab me and try to drag me down an alley.  Unfortunately, he quickly found just how bad this idea was and at the very least has a fat lip…and perhaps one or two missing teeth.  I’m fine and no worse for the wear, although I’m still a little mad about it.  I could have broken a heel.  Or ripped my jeans.  Dammit.

5.  I baked a coconut cake for the cafe.  Please come in and eat it so I’m not tempted.  Thanks.

Save The Date

I know it’s short notice, but don’t make plans for Saturday evening.  I might have something to celebrate.  I’m just sayin’…..

Random Stuff

Evelyn’s is now open at 6:30 on weekday mornings. Yes, you read that correctly — 6:30. I started that today, and honestly it wasn’t that bad — it’s only an extra hour, and the weekend hours haven’t changed. Plus it’s kind of nice being up and about when the neighborhood is quiet. Could it be that I am turning into a morning person?

I’ve brought back the chicken salad sandwich…on a bagel. People seem to like it, so I’m sticking with that. I’m also baking like crazy — this weekend’s treats are going to be fun. Stay tuned for that.

Not much happening in the ‘hood these days…it’s been mighty quiet.

Only In Pigtown…

…could you go to a coffeehouse, sit next to three Colonial Dames from Mt. Clare and listen to Motorhead at the same time.

And everyone’s fine with everyone else, and the whole thing just works.

A New Day, A New Window

I have a shiny new window, and it was a nice way to start the week. The weekend was a little rough, frankly, and I’d love to not have a repeat of that…ever. Many thanks to T-Fizzle and company for their hard work today. :)  Thanks, too, to Caplan Brothers Glass for coming out so quickly.  You guys rock.

And thanks again to everyone who came in, offering support. It’s wonderful to know how many people want to see the community come together in a positive way, and it’s also great to know that the negative ones among us won’t succeed in bringing the rest of us down. What hurts one business hurts all businesses, and we can’t tolerate that as a community.

Broken Glass And The ‘Hood

So you may have noticed by now that one of the windows of my cafe was shattered and is now boarded over. I wanted to wait until I was no longer angry before I posted about this, but then I realised that I’m never going to not be angry about it, so what the hell.

Around 7 PM (and this is a very rough time frame), someone (or multiple someones) decided it would be a good idea to throw a bunch of bricks through one of my windows. The very window I’m always sitting in. I don’t know what they thought they would accomplish, and obviously the people who are responsible don’t know me at all…because it didn’t accomplish much, other than getting me to dig my heels in and continue to make our community a safer place for all of its residents.

As for who did it — your guess is as good as mine. However, people who do stupid things generally like to brag about it to other stupid people, and word will get back to me soon enough. And then the people will be dealt with accordingly, including the person who caused all of this to happen. Mark my words.

I’d like to thank everyone who came into the cafe today to offer their support and kindness, and the people who came running last night to help clean up. You are what makes this community a wonderful place to live.

The Issue of Dogs

I posted this on the cafe’s blog, but in case you didn’t read it…dogs will no longer be allowed inside the cafe. Sorry. This isn’t something I wanted to do…but I have to…so that’s that. And there will be no exceptions made — other than guide dogs/seeing eye dogs.

And speaking of dogs — how sad is this?  Foreclosure dogs??
