Welcome Bmore Sweet to the blogroll. She’s into baking — so it was only logical that I would add her to the list of Blogs I Think Are Important on the right. Mmm…baking…
So I promised someone I would make him a tiramisu, and a quick search turned up a recipe on her blog — it was fate. Karma. Whatever. Good Lord it looks like a lot of work, but I said I would do it…maybe this weekend. We’ll see.

You absolutely have to give these people a listen — they’re fantastic. I’m listening right now to an EP one of the band members gave me while I was working one day. I totally forgot to listen to it until now, and it’s SO good. It will be a house favorite at Evelyn’s. Long live Esquimaux!

1. I am not a racist.
2. I do not hate Black people. (Duh…)
3. I have never, nor would I ever, say that anyone’s place of business is a front for drug activity.
4. I have never been involved in “putting articles in the paper” with regard to #3 above. I was featured in an article in the Baltimore Sun, but anyone with a second-grade education should be able to read and understand it.
5. I do not spend my days calling the police on drug addicts, drug dealers, random pedestrians, or anyone else. You might have that kind of free time, but I don’t.
And may I add, anyone who says otherwise is a fucking asshole.
That’s all. Carry on.

I posted this on the cafe’s blog, but in case you didn’t read it…dogs will no longer be allowed inside the cafe. Sorry. This isn’t something I wanted to do…but I have to…so that’s that. And there will be no exceptions made — other than guide dogs/seeing eye dogs.
And speaking of dogs — how sad is this? Foreclosure dogs??

Because obviously it bears repeating. From the December 21st Blotter:
Shooting // A man, 46, and his wife were walking in the 1100 block of S. Carey St. about 8 p.m. Wednesday when they were stopped by a gunman who demanded their money and valuables. During a struggle with the gunman, the husband was shot in the neck and a hand. The woman was not injured. The victims fled to their house nearby and called 911. The husband was treated at Maryland Shock Trauma Center. The gunman fled with no money or property and was being sought.
If you are approached by a stranger with a gun, who is demanding your valuables, GIVE. THEM. UP. This is the second story I’ve heard about someone struggling with their robber/burglar, and both times, the victim ended up injured — one guy received quite the ass-whipping (and never mind the public humiliation) and now this poor guy was shot.
DO. NOT. argue with a robber who is pointing a gun at you.

Sometimes I just shouldn’t read the news. I don’t watch it on TV, and sometimes I should ignore the news links at the top of my gmail screen.
This story sent me through the roof earlier. In short:
Mentally ill (and unmedicated) teenager is running around the family apartment claiming to have a gun. Mother calls 911 and tells the dispatcher her son has a gun. Son is yelling in the background that he has a gun. Police show up, the son goes outside with something jammed underneath his shirt, continues to yell that he has a gun. Police tell him to drop it, kid taunts police, police shoot his sorry psycho ass, now the family wants “justice”. Give. Me. A. Goddam. Break.
The police did exactly what they are supposed to do. Show up, crazy has gun (according to crazy), police warn crazy to lose gun, crazy refuses, police shoot to kill. WTF planet do these people live on? The police aren’t required to actually see the gun, because by then it would be too late. Stupid, stupid, stupid. My guess is that this was exactly what the kid wanted — suicide-by-cop. The makings of a sorry-ass BET mini-series if I ever saw one.

Thanks to Johnny Dollar for the link to this site. The guy is documenting all of the cool old neon signs around the Baltimore metro area — I love old signs. Those of you who have known me a while may remember my struggle to fund my advertising sign project — I wanted to refurbish all of the wonderful advertising signs that were painted on the sides of buildings. Maybe one of these days I’ll get that project going again.

Well the election came and went. Mayor Dixon won, much to my dismay and to the dismay of most thinking, taxpaying citizens. On the flip side, my father always used to say that you get the government you deserve — less than 30% of the eligible population voted, so maybe we’re getting exactly what we deserve. Sad.
On the flip side, there was one bit of good news — Bill Cole won the 11th District City Council seat, which thrills me to no end. He’s a good guy and I think he’ll fight tooth and nail for our district, which is what we really need right about now.

Today’s voting day in Baltimore, and I can’t vote.
I’m registered as a Republican and there are no Republican candidates to vote for, and since it’s a primary and not a general election…no voting for me today. Oh well — I can vote in the general election, and I can’t wait.
So good luck to William Cole, our (hopefully) newest 11th District representative to the City Council, Michael Sarbanes (for City Council President) and yes, even good luck to Kieffer Mitchell.
