Some tidbits and links:
1. JJT finally has dining room chairs. Yes, this is newsworthy. Apparently he only has two, and I will keep you updated as to the status of the other two as information becomes available.
2. I am not closing the cafe. In fact, I hope to stay here until they drag my fat ass out in a pine box. Thanks to the generosity and support of friends and neighbors, I was able to take care of some outstanding issues, and I owe them a party. That will happen before the summer is out, I promise.
3. Smith & Wesson thinks it’s a good idea for women to own pink guns. I think it’s bullshit, frankly, and wouldn’t be caught dead (no pun intended) with one. I’m more partial to this little beauty.
4. Someone thought it would be a good idea to grab me and try to drag me down an alley. Unfortunately, he quickly found just how bad this idea was and at the very least has a fat lip…and perhaps one or two missing teeth. I’m fine and no worse for the wear, although I’m still a little mad about it. I could have broken a heel. Or ripped my jeans. Dammit.
5. I baked a coconut cake for the cafe. Please come in and eat it so I’m not tempted. Thanks.

This morning, a neighbor who lives on McHenry (between Otterbein and Scott) was mugged. The mugger was described as a black male, 50-55 years old, 5′8″ or 9″ tall, dark skin and short hair. He was also walking with a fake limp and used a cane…which he then used to hit the victim before snatching her purse. This happened at approximately 9 AM.

So I’m not the greatest party planner in the world. Tonight I ended up going to Carroll Station for dinner and then hanging out with H & A at their house. And now I’m home baking a lemon bundt cake even though it’s almost 12:30.
I will, however, plan some kind of celebratory thing…soon. I promise.

I know it’s short notice, but don’t make plans for Saturday evening. I might have something to celebrate. I’m just sayin’…..

…I haven’t been in much of a writing mood lately, as you can well imagine. I will resume my blog once things settle down a bit. Pray that everything works out, please.

It has come to my attention that I have the greatest neighbors, customers, and friends in the world. You are why I love this place so much — I am overwhelmed by your generosity and kindness.
Thank you so very much. Myles and I are so very lucky to have you all.

SC Johnson (you know, the company that makes a boatload of cleaning products…some of which you probably own) is sponsoring a neighborhood “Clean-Up Makeover” for one lucky Baltimore community. And Pigtown is one of three communities being considered — but you have to vote! Click here, scroll down to vote…and vote for Pigtown!

The most recent issue of New Yorker depicts a woman receiving an Amazon.com delivery, and she happens to live next to an independently-owned bookstore.
Under normal circumstances, I might have appreciated that irony.

You absolutely have to give these people a listen — they’re fantastic. I’m listening right now to an EP one of the band members gave me while I was working one day. I totally forgot to listen to it until now, and it’s SO good. It will be a house favorite at Evelyn’s. Long live Esquimaux!
