Broken Glass And The ‘Hood

So you may have noticed by now that one of the windows of my cafe was shattered and is now boarded over. I wanted to wait until I was no longer angry before I posted about this, but then I realised that I’m never going to not be angry about it, so what the hell.

Around 7 PM (and this is a very rough time frame), someone (or multiple someones) decided it would be a good idea to throw a bunch of bricks through one of my windows. The very window I’m always sitting in. I don’t know what they thought they would accomplish, and obviously the people who are responsible don’t know me at all…because it didn’t accomplish much, other than getting me to dig my heels in and continue to make our community a safer place for all of its residents.

As for who did it — your guess is as good as mine. However, people who do stupid things generally like to brag about it to other stupid people, and word will get back to me soon enough. And then the people will be dealt with accordingly, including the person who caused all of this to happen. Mark my words.

I’d like to thank everyone who came into the cafe today to offer their support and kindness, and the people who came running last night to help clean up. You are what makes this community a wonderful place to live.

Glad you weren’t sitting in the window at the time. Bricks as hard. They tend to damage the body. I envision there be some whuppings in the (ir)responsible twerps respective futures.

Whuppings will be the least of their worries. :)

I’d like to throw bricks at these guys’ heads. (Or gals if applicable)

By the way, are you closed today in observance of MLK Jr.? I wish my office were closed. We apparently have no love for civil rights.

While I have plenty of love for civil rights, I am indeed open. I closed last year for MLK Jr. Day, but this year…given the incident with the window, I decided to be open.

Maybe someone should throw a brick at me to wake me up because as I was driving by the cafe bleary eyed this morning at about 7:45 to grab a coffee and check up on you (the brick incident had me worried) I thought I saw all the lights out, which is why I thought you might be closed for the holiday.

That is really terrible. What is it with people who just want to screw up a good thing? It’s like high school kids that destroy the library and school computers. WHO do they think they’re really hurting? It’s hard to believe that someone from the community would throw bricks through your window, but is that probably what happened?

Hopefully the actual brick-throwers don’t live here, but the person who incited all of this…she lives here. Which is unfortunate, because despite her claims of being a champion of the community, she’s caused at least one business to lose almost all of his customers, and he’s a nice guy trying to support his kids, for God’s sake. All because she wanted to spread nasty gossip about me. Good going, jackass. :(

Jeannine, I still have all of the bricks, so if you’d like to tell me which house is yours, I can come round when you get home from work. We can play “Dodge Brick”. HA HA HA HA!!!!!

Throwing bricks through windows - 10 points for passive-aggression and 0 points for originality.

I’m really sorry this happened. I had my living room windows bricked at a prior residence and not only is it terrifying, but it’s just a major f**king inconvenience.

Lucky for me it was an easy fix, and thankfully nobody was there. Yeah, the passive-aggression is a little pathetic. Totally pathetic, actually.

  11. 11 Jeannine

LOL! I will play as long as you promise to yell “Eff you I love Jesus!” while throwing said bricks. I have to warn you though, I have great side to side movement for a taller gal.

  12. 12 Carol

Um, I was thinking we’d be on the same Dodge Brick team. I’m a little on the clumsy side.

Hi Carol, sooooo very sorry to hear about your window! WTF?!?! From what I’ve read on COP, you’re not the only one who has been a recent victim to brick throwing. Why would anyone do this when you’ve been all-around cool and friendly?

Well, glad to know your window has been fixed and back to beautiful. Hope all is well and stays well!

–Celina (I’m that plump black woman who stopped in one day, and didn’t recognize you with your new fabulous hair cut & color. :))
