He Must Have Been Thinking About Pigtown

Listening to Bruce Springsteen’s new album - Magic. There’s a song called “Long Walk Home” and I found this verse rather poignant:

Here everybody has a neighbor
Everybody has a friend
Everybody has a reason to begin again

My father said “Son, we’re lucky in this town,
It’s a beautiful place to be born.
It just wraps its arms around you,
Nobody crowds you and nobody goes it alone”

Happy Happy Hour Hour

If you’re interested in meeting your fellow Baltimore-area bloggers, go here to read the details for the Octovember Happy Hour. Be there or be a dork.

What’s Your Sign?

Thanks to Johnny Dollar for the link to this site. The guy is documenting all of the cool old neon signs around the Baltimore metro area — I love old signs. Those of you who have known me a while may remember my struggle to fund my advertising sign project — I wanted to refurbish all of the wonderful advertising signs that were painted on the sides of buildings. Maybe one of these days I’ll get that project going again.

Verizon Wireless Is Selling You Out

Thanks to this post from Anonymous CoWorker, I called the number to opt out. If you have Verizon Wireless, go read the post and call the number — unless, of course, you don’t mind your personal information being sold to God-knows-who for God-knows-what-reason.

Random Stuff

1. To those who expressed their concern yesterday and today, no I was not involved with whatever was going on with the police on the boulevard Monday morning. I happened by because I wanted some coffee, and stayed for the melee. Nothing more, I assure you.

2. Today was eerily (is that a word?) quiet in the ‘hood. The cafe was somewhat busy, which was good — but the sidewalks were devoid of the “usual suspects”. Very interesting.

3. I was approached today with the prospect of opening a cafe in another neighborhood. I’m intrigued.

4. The weather is glorious and I’m getting spoiled.

That’s all. Carry on.

You Know You’re Jealous…

I met AH and the lovely LF. Little minxes, the both of them. Oo la la!

One of these days I’m going to beg and grovel until they take me to the shooting range with them.

Rate-A-Hooker & Score Some Dope

Now you can go online and see how your favorite street corner prostitute is rated among some of her clients. If this doesn’t make you a little queasy, you’re not human.

Once you’re done rating your ho-du-jour, these folks will show you how to score dope on the mean city streets. And yes, Pigtown is indeed mentioned here.

I can’t believe people talk about this stuff on public forums. Sweet jesus.

And in case you’re wondering, I came across these links while searching for info on a methadone clinic here in the neighborhood. Gads.

More Fun With Google Analytics, And A Message.

I love Google Analytics. It’s an interesting tool to see where my readers come from and what some of them are looking for. An some of you are looking for some really weird stuff.

But ha ha ha to the guy who was looking for “carol pissy mood“. Yes, I’m in a pissy mood from time to time. No need to shout it to the world. And “support for Keiffer Mitchell will get you closed” — what the hell? Threats via search phrases? Take it elsewhere, please. Lots of searches for Warren Brown and Bobby Ray Stanberry. Eek. And then there’s the usual “Pigtown crime“, “Baltimore prostitutes“, and “heroin Baltimore“. Nice. Someone’s shopping online, I see.

The cafe’s blog doesn’t show any strange searches, although I did think it a bit odd that someone ended up in that site after searching for Housewerks. (By the way, if you’ve never been to Housewerks, you should go. Cool stuff abounds! They’re on Bayard Street.)

I’d also like to take this opportunity to address an issue that’s been bugging me lately. To the person who’s been going around the neighborhood saying that I’m a racist, could you please knock it off? I’m not going to name you here, but it would be to your advantage to stop it, because I know who you are. Also, if you don’t like my blog, why do you continue to read it? I don’t know why you’ve chosen me as your personal mission — that’s between you and your god — but you really need to get a hobby of some sort, one that doesn’t involve making ridiculous accusations about people you’ve never met. Thanks!

Oh Heavenly Day - A Meme!

I can’t believe what a great day I had today. All of the planets must be in perfect alignment. Work was terrific, and the weather couldn’t be nicer. Great customers, great food and coffee — what could be better?

So Charissa tagged me…eek. I’ve never been tagged before. Okay here goes.

The rules:

You must list one fact that is somehow relevant to your life for each letter of your middle name. If you don’t have a middle name, use the middle name you would have liked to have had. When you are tagged you need to write your own blog-post containing your own middle name and the rules of the game. At the end of your blog-post, you need to choose one person for each letter of your middle name to tag. Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog.

S:trong. Because if I wasn’t as strong as I am, I would have given up a long time ago.
U:nstoppable. Like one of Michael Vick’s dogs, I clamp down and don’t give up until I get my way. Most times I use this power for good, not evil.
Z:any. Because there aren’t many descriptors that begin with the letter Z, and because I do have a wild side.
A:rtistic. I paint. I write. I create food things.
N:erd: I am one, and proud of it. I’m in good company, too, from the looks of things.
N:ervous: A little too tightly wound sometimes, and I’m working on that.
E:nergetic: Usually at night, but yes I can be energetic.

Okay Anger, JJT, Brian, Danielle, NPR, Carol, and Emily — meme yourselves silly.

A Sad State of Affairs, But Not All Is Lost

Well the election came and went. Mayor Dixon won, much to my dismay and to the dismay of most thinking, taxpaying citizens. On the flip side, my father always used to say that you get the government you deserve — less than 30% of the eligible population voted, so maybe we’re getting exactly what we deserve. Sad.

On the flip side, there was one bit of good news — Bill Cole won the 11th District City Council seat, which thrills me to no end. He’s a good guy and I think he’ll fight tooth and nail for our district, which is what we really need right about now.
